The Best Outfits for your Maternity Photo Shoot
What should I wear for my maternity photos?
This is the NUMBER ONE question pregnant women ask. Their bodies have changed and none of their favorite clothes fit anymore. Trust me, this doesn’t have to be hard! I can make MAGIC happen with just a simple piece of fabric draped around your shoulders. Don’t overthink this!
For the women wondering what they should wear, here are my TOP wardrobe tips for the best maternity photos:
Wear something FORM FITTING - Choose pieces that hug your curves! I love a simple stretchy tube dress for this. I have a black one in my studio that amazingly fits so many women. It’s sleek, form fitting, and timeless. Look for a body con style dress with maximum stretch to get this classic look.
KEEP IT SIMPLE - Opt for solids over patterns and neutrals over bright colors! This helps keep the focus on the connection between you and baby and not on the vibrant dress you have on! I keep a simple piece of beige fabric in my studio that is very boring in real life - but it provides beautiful structure and makes the most beautiful portraits.
MAKE IT PERSONAL - Many women opt to bring in a beautiful silk robe from their wedding day or honeymoon. It’s a sentimental item that adds meaning and variety to their photoshoot. Often times this item “breaks the rules” and has brighter colors and patterns. It’s the meaning behind the piece that matters most, so if you love it, bring it!
GO BARE - An intimate choice and my personal favorite because your body simply never goes out of style. It’s a bonus that it requires the LEAST amount of prep work/thinking! Opt for a super simple black bra and panty set, a sheer sheet, or nothing at all!
These are just a few ideas to get you started. It doesn’t have to be fancy! I can create a variety of dynamic portraits with just a few pieces of fabric + a handful of meaningful items you bring from home. Peruse my portfolio for more ideas to start dreaming up your maternity photo shoot!
