Meet Chicago Photographer Stephanie Toland
In honor of my 30th birthday, I thought I would introduce myself to you all a little more in depth. So many of you trust me with capturing intimate moments in your lives. The least I can do is tell you all a little bit more about what inspires me most!
My first love in life is dance. I started dancing when I was 9 and never stopped. It has been the single most influential passion I have had in my life and continues to inspire my photography. I studied dance in college and have performed with several professional companies. I have traveled the U.S. and even had the opportunity to tour Taiwan with my college dance theatre.
I even met my husband in a dance class. We were instantly best friends. After I graduated, the two of us went to work full time building his performance career. He works as an entertainer for corporate events and private parties. His bizarre career has landed us in interesting places. Together we have traveled to the mountains in Wyoming, the beaches in Florida, casinos in Vegas, mascot factories in Illinois (seriously), skyscrapers in NYC, and tiny towns all across America.
I first started taking pictures to document all of the places we were traveling and it wasn’t long before I started getting requests for weddings, performances, headshots and more. It took me a full 7 years of learning and exploring to figure out exactly what kind of images I wanted to make for people.
Today I am celebrating my 30th birthday! I have spent the better part of the last decade working towards this career taking timeless portraits for women. My work is influenced by movement and dancing. I love focusing my attention on one woman in my studio at a time. I feel like these beautiful portraits are a perfect match for my calm energy and I am fulfilling my lifelong dream to create art. The perk is that I get to create art that holds such deep personal meaning for the women in front of my camera.
